Articulation & Orofacial Myology

Imagine your mouth is like a small factory that makes sounds when you talk. Articulation is how well your mouth can produce these sounds clearly and correctly and it is a huge part of effective communication. Also, did you know that articulation and literacy go hand-in-hand? This is because they are both sound-based systems. When you are learning to read and write, knowing how to make sounds correctly is super important in helping an individual effectively decode (i.e., phonology). STC specializes in articulation and phonological disorders/delays in adult and pediatric patients, dysarthria, apraxia of speech, orofacial myofunctional disorders (e.g., tongue thrust), and other motor speech disorders resulting from a variety of etiologies.

Auditory Processing Treatment

Did you know that hearing and listening are two entirely different skills? Listening, processing, and storing information in our memories is crucial to the development of, and success with, comprehension, auditory attention, auditory working memory, non-verbal working memory (imagination), literacy, and even social skills. At STC, we work with Audiologists and conduct our own holistic auditory processing evaluations to identify any difficulties that may be impeding learning and communication.

Bilingual Therapy

Did you know that 80% of the world is raised in a bilingual or multilingual environment? When an individual experiences speech or language difficulties it is essential that a speech-language pathologist take into consideration linguistic and cultural backg round. STC Co-Owner, Jessica, specializes in comprehensive bilingual Spanish/English speech and language evaluations and treatment. Bilingual speech and language therapy recognizes the richness of linguistic diversity and ensures that individuals receive appropriate and effective support to excel in their communication abilities across all languages.

Cognitive Linguistic & Executive Function

Reductions in cognitive linguistic skills can result from learning disabilities and injury to the brain. Executive function therapy is like special training for the boss of your body (your brain). Just like a boss, your brain has a lot of important tasks to manage and organize to help you get things done every day. These tasks include things like planning, paying attention, staying organized, starting and finishing tasks, and controlling your emotions and impulses. At STC, we are skilled at identifying the underpinnings of deficits and treating clients with cognitive linguistic challenges and Executive Dysfunction.

Social Skills Group & Individual Treatment

Social skills refer to the social use of language and how we use verbal and nonverbal cues to interact with others in social contexts. Social-pragmatic therapy is designed for kids and adults who find it challenging to understand social cues, engage in conversations, or express themselves effectively. At STC we help you crack the code of social mysteries and find solutions to social challenges. Our therapy takes a problem-solving approach, addressing specific social challenges you may encounter in real-life. At STC, our aim is to empower individuals with the tools they need to thrive in social situations, foster meaningful connections, and become more confident. We work with our clients individually and lead social skills groups based on age range and deficits.

Speech Anxiety & Public Speaking

Is your child struggling to participate in class, or get up in front of other students to present? Are you struggling with presentations at work, talking on the phone, speaking up during meetings, or giving speeches? STC therapists understand that confidence in one’s own communication skills is key, and we can foster that confidence. Through individualized, holistic treatment that includes counseling, self-regulation, social-emotional work, role play, and feedback, we are ready to uncover and grow the skills you or your child needs to fully participate in social, academic, and professional activities and environments.

the anatomy and physiology of the voice (some have used their voices professionally, including STC co-owner, Sarah, who specializes in voice therapy) as well as how to ensure healthy vocal production has staying power in your daily life, instead of just leaving you with exercises. In conjunction with other professionals, we offer comprehensive evaluations and functional voice treatment to children and adults with a variety of voice disorders and concerns.
